Last Night
Posted by Green River Preserve on July 19, 2008
Today the campers had a late breakfast and then started working on their service projects, everything from scrapbooking to trash pick-up. The closing upper council fire was tonight, followed by the candlelight ceremony.
Don't forget to pick your children up tomorrow, but please don't arrive before 9AM.

Day Nineteen
The last couple days have been a blur of activity. The last day of GLPs, day in DuPont, then this morning we got up at 3:30AM to hike to Pretty Place, a four mile hike just over the South Carolina border. The campers arrived there by 5:30 and watched the sun rise before hiking back to camp and taking a nap. Yesterday was day in DuPont forest day. We hiked to see Hooker Falls, Triple Falls, and High Falls. At High Falls there is an amazing natural water slide that the campers could slide down.
Photos are here.
Third day of GLPs
Posted by Green River Preserve on July 16, 2008
Today was the third day of GLPs, or Group Learning Projects. All of the groups stayed close to base camp for today. One group designed and painted one of the busses, one spent the day learning how to cook in the outdoors, one spent the day learning how to make fire using bow drills, one wove baskets, and one learned about invasive species.
Some photos from yesterday here.
Days 14, 15, and 16
Posted by Green River Preserve on July 15, 2008
It has been a couple days since the last entry because we ere experiencing some internet difficulty. Day 14 was the last day of mentor hikes. The groups got to choose where they went. Yesterday was the first day of GLPs and we had everything from earth skills to K9 search and rescue. Today is the second day of GLPs and most of the groups are still out in field. Some went tubing on the river, some went canoeing to Hooker Falls and then hiked around to several different waterfalls, one group is hiking 10 miles roundtrip to Rainbow Falls and one group is making their own moccasins.
Photos from Days 14 and 15 are here and more from today will be posted later tonight or tomorrow.
OBX 2 Update
Here are the pictures from the first week of kayaking. The expeditioners have successfully left the flat water behind and have been paddling along Shackleford Island and to the Cape Lookout Lighthouse. At the lighthouse, they were joined by NC Maritime museum biologist, Kieth Rittmaster for some snorkeling and surfing. More pictures coming soon.
