Staff, Selection and Training
The Green River experience begins with our summer camp staff. Personally and thoroughly interviewed by the camp directors, Missy and Sandy Schenck, our staff members are carefully selected with regard to maturity, sensitivity, intellectual achievement and integrity as role models. Upon selection, they are trained with the help of former staff to ensure all campers get the rich and rewarding experience they should expect from the Green River Preserve.
Our naturalists, whom we call mentors, are men and women of exceptional character who have a genuine love of teaching and the out-of-doors. All mentors are college graduates with teaching experience, among them are National Merit Scholars, graduate foresters, professional artists and teachers. Mentors lead morning hikes, help teach afternoon activities, and sit with cabin groups and their counselors at our family-style meals.
